TONGA'S HEALTH MINISTER DELIVERS OPENING ADDRESS AT 9TH WHO GLOBAL FORUM FOR GOVERNMENT CHIEF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY OFFICERS

Tonga's Health Minister Hon. Associate Professor 'Amelia Afuha'amango Tu'ipulotu delivered the Opening Address for the morning session of the 9th WHO Global Forum for Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers at 7pm on Friday 19 June, 2020 in a virtual meeting.

The meeting focused on strengthening the nursing and midwifery in the context of COVID-19, leveraging the findings from the first ever State of the world's nursing 2020 report and new evidence on midwifery, and identifying priorities for the next strategic directions for nursing and midwifery.

The meeting began with the Session Opening by Elizabeth Iro, Chief Nursing Officer, WHO and proceeded to the Session Agenda and Objectives before the Opening Address by Tonga's Heath Minister for the morning session.

Following the meeting, WHO's Chief Nursing Officer, Elizabeth Iro, thanked Tonga's Health Minister for her inspiring Opening Address stating:

In addition your intervention during the meeting
encouraging all to have a forward looking
agenda while considering what success
looks like were relevant and critical.

Your leadership not only in Tonga but at the
global level as a member of the WHO Executive
Board is recognized.

Iro said that she was looking forward to ensuring health of the people and especially the vulnerable populations.

Tonga is one of the 194 member countries of WHO.
